Ladner May Days Safety Update

The recent tragic events at Vancouver's Lapu-Lapu festival heightened our need to reassure our community that safety remains our highest priority at the Ladner May Day Parade.

We’ve long had strong safety measures in place and continue working closely with the Delta Police and City of Delta to improve them. Every year, we review our protocols to keep our attendees, volunteers, and float participants as safe as possible.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, select roads along the parade route will be temporarily closed with advance notice provided. These roads are closed with no car access in advance of, during, and proceeding the parade. Police officers will be present in the downtown core, and safety barricades are in place at each road access point. Each barricade is staffed by 1–2 dedicated volunteers to help guide and assist the public.

Additionally, at Memorial park we have police presence, including a headquarters, for the duration of the event. There are strict guidelines for cars to be off the property after set-up, well before the event begins.

Our hearts go out to those impacted by the Lapu-Lapu tragedy. It’s a powerful reminder of our shared duty to care for and protect one another. We stand united in fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive community.
